Deputies from Sunday's election to be sworn in Sunday at 18:00; change in schedule

Party members who won seats in Parliament in Sunday's elections will be sworn in at 18:00 on Sunday (May 28), according to an updated presidential decree by President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

The swearing-in, which was originally set for June 1, will occupy the new Parliament's first session. The speeding up of the process was proposed by the government, after the three major parties emerging from the May 21 national elections had, by Tuesday, successively turned down exploratory mandates by the president to form a government.

At 10:30 am on Monday (May 29), deputies will elect the president of Parliament by roll call. That individual must have the absolute majority of deputies in the 300-chamber.
