A 35-year-old male resident of Agiassos, Lesvos island, was sentenced by a North Aegean appeals court to 3 years in jail for seriously injuring a Bangladeshi resident on the hand on December 8, 2018, reducing the original sentence and amending the charges.

The 56-year-old Bangladeshi migrant - who was working at a supermarket collecting carts and looking after the parking lot - asked the 35-year-old Greek not to park in the space for disabled people. This provoked the ire of the younger man, who took a crow bar out of his car and injured the migrant on the hand, claiming to the court he had been personally insulted.

Following the incident, the Bangladeshi man - who happened to be is particularly popular with residents of the town of Mytilini - was operated on and became temporarily unable to work at the supermarket and at picking olives, his second job.

A first-instance court jailed served the Greek man with a 7-year-sentence without remand, including possession and use of weapons, in November 2021 and he was led to jail. The appeals court lowered the sentence and changed the charge from intending serious physical harm to having perpetraded a dangerous action.
