FM Dendias signs agreement for Greece's participation in SICA as observer

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on Friday expressed his satisfaction for the signing of an agreement for Greece' participation as observer to Central American Integration System (SICA), in joint statements with the general secretary of SICA Werner Vargas who is in Athens.
The decision was taken unanimously during a meeting of the leaders and the governments of the state-members of the organisation in Santiago De Los Caballeros of The Dominican Republic 
Dendias said that this decision indicates the "Greece upgraded role in the area in the last years» and in parallel "reflects the strong ties that Greece has built with the countries of Central America.
The members of SICA that was founded in 1991 are Guatemala, The Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Belize, Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama.
Dendias also added that Greece is expecting positive result in its request for the accreditation of a Greek Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
On his part the general secretary of SICA expressed his sincere satisfaction for Greece's integration as observer to SICA. "We are working very hard for the integration at social, cultural and commercial level" he said adding that "the countries of SICA and Greece followed common paths in order to be able to become independent".
"Issues as food safety, climate change, migration issues, economic integration and energy are a priority for the region of Central America and we are certain that with joint work and cooperation we will be able to collaborate for the sustainable growth between our two geographical zones" he concluded.
