Greece, Central American Integration System to sign agreement on Friday

Greece will sign an agreement in Athens on Friday allowing it to be an observer at the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Signing in Athens with Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias will be Werner Vargas, the secretary general of SICA, an organization integrating the Central American countries and the Dominican Republic.

Dendias and Vargas will hold a private meeting, to be followed at 12:00 by extended talks between the two sides. Around 12:45, the agreement allowing Greece to be an observer will be signed, while Dendias and Vargas will make joint statements to the press.

SICA includes Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. Greece was accepted by SICA as observer in December 2022, during the leaders' summit in Santiago De Los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic.

Dendias toured Central and North American early in February 2023.
