A large fire broke out early on Monday in the area of Fygia, Karystos, on the island of Evia, while an order was given for the preventive evacuation of Marmari.
At the moment, 46 firefighters with 20 vehicles, 1 group on foot and 6 helicopters are operating in the area with the assistance of volunteer firefighters as well as water carriers of the local government.
However, strong winds blowing in the area are making the work of the fire brigade more difficult.
According to the Shipping Ministry, a port lifeguard, a private boat and two passenger ships are on immediate alert in Marmari to provide assistance if required.
