Forest fires break out at Oleni, Panopoulo in western Peloponnese

A forest fire has broken out at Oleni area in Pyrgos, western Greece, on Sunday afternoon.

It began at an inaccessible area, but is not threatening residential communities so far, the Fire Brigade said, noting also the very windy conditions.

Some 57 firefighters with 21 fire trucks are at the area, along with a mountain unit, while 2 airplanes and 2 helicopters are dropping water by air. Additional air assistance is expected.

Also in the western Peloponnese, another fire broke out at Panopoulo in the Ilia prefecture also. There are 57 firefighters with 21 fire trucks are at the area, along with 2 mountain units, while 4 airplanes and 2 helicopters are dropping water by air.
