University of Athens and NTUA ranked among world's top 100 for research

Two Greek universities achieved very high ranks in the "Top Universities by Google Scholar Citations" world ranking Webometrics published in January, it was announced on Thursday.
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) was ranked 26th among 10,500 universities, receiving the 6th highest rank among European Universities; while the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) appeared in the 83rd position.
Webometrics ranks universities based on the number of times their research staff is cited in Google Scholar, a popular search engine for academic bibliography. Citations are considered to be the most dependable criterion of assessing a university's scientific and research work, as what is measured is the impact of a researcher's work within the scientific community rather than the quantity of publications and articles.
NKUA, with 844,945 citations, is up 12 positions compared to the last rankings Webometrics published in July 2018. The 26th place is the highest ranking ever achieved by a Greek University.
