Labour minister signs for extension of four collective labour agreements

Labour Minister Effie Achtsioglou on Monday signed ministerial decisions extending four sectoral collective labour agreements that together affect an estimated 75,000 workers.
The ministerial decisions render these sectoral agreements mandatory for banks, shipping firms, tourist and travel agencies and all shipping agents and agencies belonging to the International Maritime Union.
The labour ministry said that it is continuing a process of checking sectoral labour agreements now in force, to check whether they meet the requirements to be extended, and that similar checks will be conducted on collective labour agreements signed in the future.
Restoring the principle of the collective bargaining, extension of collective agreements and adoption of the "best" agreement for employees is expected to help improve available income for workers, the ministry said.
